About JCAP

The Justice and Corporate Accountability Project (JCAP) is a volunteer-driven transnational, collaborative, community-based legal clinic.  JCAP assists in holding corporations and states to account by offering legal knowledge to communities that are negatively affected by natural resource extraction.  JCAP has cultivated specific expertise in supporting Indigenous and Campesino communities in the Americas and has also supported communities in Africa.

JCAP is an initiative of volunteer lawyers.  Under the direction of Professor Shin Imai of Osgoode Hall Law School, York University, and Professor Charis Kamphuis at Thompson Rivers University Faculty of Law, JCAP offers law students the opportunity to provide legal services and research to communities and international human rights and not-for-profit organizations.

Our location in Canada and our affiliation with two Canadian law schools provides a unique and strategic position for addressing the legal dimensions of transnational resource extraction.
