Amicus Curiae Kukama Women’s Fed. v PETROPERU

Justice & Corporate Accountability Project (“JCAP”) intervenes in this case to support the petition of the Kukama Women’s Federation (Federación Huaynakana Kamatahuara Kana) to defend the rights of Kukama Indigenous peoples in the Loreto region, including their right to participate in the use, conservation, and administration of the Marañón River. This amicus curiae brief aims to highlight ways in which Canada and the province of British Columbia are moving towards the greater recognition of Indigenous rights to govern and act as guardians of their territories.
